ACONCAGUA. RUTA DE "POLACOS"
Watch trailer (click here)
In winter 2006, mountaineer Xavi Arias together with 6 other climbers went to the Polish route on Aconcagua (Argentina).Though they believed they would be pioneering this difficult climbing in winter time, Xavi Arias realized that a Mountaineering Section of the "Foment Martinenc of Barcelona" expedition had already done it, also in winter.
Being recognized as the first winter ascent, it was named "Ruta de los Polacos” (The Polish route).
In January 2011, Xavi Arias asked one of that 1980 expedition team members, Antoni Villena (over 70 years old now), to go together with some other mountaineers, to Aconcagua, but this time via the normal route. To relive that 30 years ago experience and to tell the differences in food, costumes, materials, communications, etc.
